Newpoint Bay Director's Message: August 31, 2009
|
|
Dear Parents,
What a fantastic first week at Newpoint Bay! During the first week, we have gotten the students signed into the network and into APEX, distributed supplies to those who ordered them, and adjusted schedules. Everything has gone smoothly as we settle in to a new school year.
WAYS YOU CAN HELP:
Pick-up
Please help us smooth out the pick-up process by lining up facing 15th Street and turning right onto 15th Street after picking up your child. Because 15th Street is so busy at this time of day, it takes a while to turn left onto this street, and we are having unnecessary back ups due to people trying to turn left. Also, if you can wait to come to the line up until 2:50 or 2:55, you will find the congestion has cleared. Please note that at 3:00, students who have not been picked up are asked to return to the front office and/or porch area to watch for their parent.
Volunteering
We always have need for an extra set of hands. If you are able to volunteer in the front office, please let us know.
Uniforms
While we are still waiting on a few of the uniforms to come in, most have arrived and been delivered to the students. If you are still waiting for uniform shirts, your child should wear only a plain red or white polo style shirt. Please be sure your child is in dress code. Beginning next week, we will be calling home and assigning detention to students who are not in dress code.
THIS WEEK:
Tuesday, September 1
Club Day – Students will have the opportunity to find out more about the clubs and extracurricular activities available at Newpoint Bay. During 5th period, they will have the opportunity to visit the sponsors of up to 3 clubs they are interested to learn the details of what the club has to offer. Club meeting days will vary, but we have designed Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:00 for the bulk of the club meetings. Please see the attached flyer to learn about the clubs we have to offer.
Friday, September 4
Back to School Rally – During 6th period (1:45 – 2:45) we will host a rally to celebrate getting back to school. We’ll have presentations, refreshments and fun! Parents are welcome to attend!
THIS MONTH:
Monday, September 7
NO SCHOOL – Labor Day
Monday, September 28 – 6:00 pm
Open House – All parents are invited to meet their child’s teachers, find out how to access their child’s APEX accounts and read reports, and more.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Uniforms
If you have not ordered your uniforms, please do so immediately by visiting the online Spirit Store. All students must be in the correct Newpoint uniform on the first day of school. If your uniforms are not due to be delivered before the first day of school, please wear a plain red or white polo style shirt and bring proof of your uniform order. Thank you.
Supplies
Please make sure that your student brings a flash drive and ear buds to school each day, including the first day of school. If you ordered a supply kit from the Newpoint online Spirit Store, your student will receive his/her kit on the first day of school.
Transportation
If your student rides the bus, you may call the Bay District Schools Transportation Office for bus schedule information. Bus schedules will also be available at the school on orientation night and thereafter.
Lunch
Newpoint Bay is a closed campus. No student may leave during lunch. Students are welcome to bring their lunch or purchase lunch from the Cuda Cafe. This year, Buffalo Rock will be catering our lunches and offering a variety of selections for students. Click here to review the menu. Vending machines and microwaves are also available on campus for student use.
Student Driving
If your child has a valid driverâs license and you allow him/her to drive to school, parking is allowed on a first come first serve basis for school year 09-10. Students are only allowed to park inside the fence, in actual parking spaces, not in the front of the school or any grass areas. As we gauge the demand of driving/parking, we reserve the right to assign and limit parking by students. All students must obey traffic and safety laws. No student is allowed to return to his/her car during the school day.
Internships
The Internship Program at Newpoint Bay is an important part of building your child's future. Having welcoming contacts in the community is key to creating partnerships that will last a lifetime for your child and Newpoint. As a parent, you can play a very important role in helping us establish these partnerships. Please take a moment to think of any relationships you have with local businesses that may be interested in supporting our Internship Program. Then, please contact our Internship Coordinator, Kevin Daniels at 215-0770.
Scheduling
In order to create the best possible classroom environment for students, it is imperative that we have good information about their prior school experience. If your student has been home-schooled, please make sure to deliver to us any official transcripts, report cards, or standardized test scores. If the student has come from a private school, it would be helpful if you could request that a copy of the student's records be sent to us, or even pick them up and bring them to us, as schools are not always cooperative with how fast records are transferred. A delay in receiving the records could cause an incorrect schedule to be given to your student until better information is received. If your student attended a Bay District school, the records will be available to us through the computer system.
